On Saturday March 4, President Emomali Rahmon visited the Khuroson district in Khatlon province.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the main purpose of the visit was for the president to get acquainted with the socioeconomic situation in the district.

While in the Fakhrobod area, the president reportedly got acquainted with the Dushanbe-Qurghon Teppa road rehabilitation project.

Recall, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved loan and grant financing for Tajikistan to improve road connectivity between Dushanbe and Qurghon Teppa, two major cities and economic hubs in the country.

The project will directly benefit residents in Dushanbe and the southern Khatlon province by improving access to jobs, markets, and public services.  It is also expected to help develop the economic corridor between Dushanbe and Afghanistan.”

The road is a strategic north–south link, one of the most heavily traveled roads in the country, and is part of Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) corridors 2, 5, and 6.

The president was informed that the first phase of the project provides for rehabilitation of 33.2 kilometers of road from Dushanbe to Chamshmasoron and the ADB approved 96 million U.S. dollars in loan and grant for improvement of the road, the website said.

The project is expected to enhance the road by expanding its width from two to four lanes, improving its surface condition, and providing well-designed safety facilities.

The Dushanbe-Qurghon Teppa road will pass through the Fakhrobod jamoat.  Since part of the jamoat will fall within the road rehabilitation plan, the Fakhrobod jamoat has decided to hand over more than 4,000 ornamental and fruit trees to Dushanbe’s parks.
