On Tuesday March 12, President Emomali Rahmon received Ms. Padamja Khandelwal, the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission that arrived in Tajikistan to continue negotiations on launching a new support program for Tajikistan.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the two sides discussed state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the IMF.

They reportedly expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation and stressed that investment climate in Tajikistan has much improved over the past five years.

It was noted that achievement of four strategic goals – energy independence, food security, bringing the country out of transport deadlock and industrialization of the country – would give an opportunity to resolve many social and economic problems facing Tajikistan.

Recall, IMF team members have already met with senior representatives of the National Bank of Tajikistan and some relevant ministries and agencies.
