On December 29, President Emomali Rahmon and Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) Speaker Rustam Emomali, who is also the Mayor of Dushanbe, got acquainted with the conditions and services of the Safed-Dara ski resort and opened the second stage of a cableway, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
In order to implement the instructions of the head of state to ensure favorable conditions for the tourism sector and to attract as many domestic and foreign tourists as possible to the Safed-Dara area, the Safed Dara Limited Liability Company (LLC) has reportedly built a number of important facilities in the field of tourism, and the construction of other infrastructure is ongoing.
At the Safed-Dara ski resort, Emomali Rahmon reportedly first got acquainted with the conditions for receiving clients in a two-story wooden cottage.
He expressed his satisfaction with the results of the measures taken and highly appreciated the quality of the works.
The president also visited a new restaurant near the upper station of Safed-Dara ski resort, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
This year, on the basis of the contract with Austria’s Doppelmayr Company, the construction of the second line of cableway was completed.
The Tajik president’s official website says the lower station of this cableway is at an altitude of 2590 meters above sea level, and the upper station is at an altitude of 3020 meters above sea level. The length of the second cableway line is 1600 meters and consists of 21 cabins. In total, the length of both cableways is 3600 meters and they have 42 cabins.
Emomali Rahmon reportedly inaugurated a new slope, dubbed "Somoni", at the upper station of Safed-Dara ski resort,.
A total length of the new ski slope "Somoni" is 7.2 kilometers, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
The Safed-Dara ski resort is located in Varzob district, 70 kilometers north of Dushanbe. It was officially opened in 1976.
Safed Dara resort is basically the only ski resort in Tajikistan. The ski based used to be called Takob ski resort but was renamed during the renovation to Safed Dara, which is translated as a white valley.
Recall, the State Committee on Investments and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest) announced an open tender for sale of the tourist and ski complex Safed-Dara in November 2015. The initial price for the resort was 1.92 million somonis. The tender results were supposed to be announced on December 14, 2015 but GosKomInvest had not done it.
