During a visit to the northern province of Sughd, President Emomali Rahmon instructed local authorities to take additional measures to ensure the development of processing industry.  His instruction came during an address to a meeting of regional administrators in the city of Guliston.   The Tajik president’s official website says Emomali Rahmon summed up the working visit to the cities of Istaravshan and Buston as well as Bobojon-Ghafourov district.

The president reportedly stated that over the first 10 months of this year alone, 52 general education institutions and additional classrooms for 16,000 students, 57 healthcare facilities and more than 2,300 kilometers of roads were built and repaired in the region.  Over the reporting period, more than 55,000 new jobs were created in the province.

The head of state noted that 26 billion somonis were allocated to the Sughd province from all sources of the state budget for the implementation of constructive goals and plans in the years of the country’s independence, including more than 3.6 billion somonis allocated over the first ten months of this year.

It was emphasized that 56 public investment projects in the amount of more than 13 billion somonis were implemented in the region during the period of independence for education, health care and transportation sectors, and 18 more projects are currently being implemented.

It was mentioned that agricultural products worth more than 18.8 billion somonis were produced in the agricultural sector of the province in January-October of 2024.

Rahmon reportedly instructed regional administrators to take effective measures to eliminate existing problems, including the decrease in the production of poultry meat and eggs, and to ensure the sustainable development of the agricultural sector.

During the analysis of the state of the industry, it was emphasized that the share of the Sughd province in the total volume of industrial production of the country has reached more than 56 percent in January-October of this year.

136 new industrial enterprises have been launched in the area over the same ten-month-period, which is 101 fewer than in the same period last year.

Therefore, local authorities together with relevant ministries and agencies were instructed to carry out additional measures for the development of the processing industry.

The head of state reportedly noted that four investment projects in a total amount of 69 million somonis are being implemented in the province to prevent the loss of electricity.

The president also gave specific orders to the responsible persons to improve the condition of medical institutions, to provide them with modern equipment and technologies and to enhance the quality of medical services.

In connection with the turbulent and unpredictable situation of the world, Emomali Rahmon demanded that the leaders and officials in such conditions expand constructive actions, pay special attention to the issue of creating new jobs, attracting domestic and foreign capital, and effective use of existing opportunities and resources.
