The President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, has extended condolences to Chinese President Xi Jinping over the earthquake that struck China's Xizang Autonomous Region, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
"We are deeply saddened by the news of numerous casualties, injuries, and damage to buildings and infrastructure caused by the devastating earthquake in the southwestern regions of China.
"In light of this tragic event, I extend my heartfelt condolences and words of sympathy to you, the families and loved ones of the victims, and the friendly people of China. I wish all those affected a full recovery," the message reads.
An earthquake measuring Mw 7.1 or Ms 6.8 struck Tingri County, on January 7, 2025 at 09:05. At least 126 people were killed while 188 others were injured in the region. The earthquake was the largest in China since May 2021 and the deadliest since December 2023.
