DUSHANBE, May 13, 2011, Asia-Plus -- According to the Drug Control Agency under the President of Tajikistan, Tajik law enforcement authorities have seized some 195 kilograms of narcotics over the first ten days of an annual anti-drug operation, dubbed “Kuknor 2011” (Poppy 2011), which was launched in Tajikistan on May 1.
A totaled included some seven kilograms of heroin, 442 grams of raw opium and more than 187 kilograms of hashish. Besides, eight tablets that tested positive to MDMA, known as ecstasy, have been seized over the report period.
The Kuknor Operation, involving representatives of law enforcement agencies, local authorities, ministries of agriculture and health, as well as the committee for TV and radio-broadcasting, is dedicated to detect and destroy drug crops across the country.
A special stuff, comprising senior representatives from the mentioned bodies, functions at the counternarcotics agency; the anti-drug operation will last until the end of November.
