Annual operation Mak-2012 (Poppy-2012) is due to start in Tajikistan on May 20. The goal of the operation is to coordinate efforts of related ministries and departments of the republic aimed to reveal and destroy wildly growing drug-containing crops, strengthen counter-drug efforts in accordance with the decision made by the Government.
Special operation will be divided into two phases and will end on November 30, 2012, a source in the Government told AP.
Special Republican Headquarter has been set up under the Tajik Drug Control Agency to coordinate organization and implementation of the operation. Similar headquarters will be set up in provinces, regions and cities throughout the republic.
Special groups consisting of police officers and local officials will be set up to reveal and destroy wildly growing drug-containing crops. The results of the operation will be summed in early December this year.
