DUSHANBE, April 22, 2015, Asia-Plus – President Emomali Rahmon convened on April 22 a meeting in Dushanbe of senior police and security officials to discuss efforts to strengthen Tajikistan’s common border with Afghanistan and to combat terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking, the Tajik president’s official website reports.
The head of state reportedly ordered to increase the fighting capacity of the country’s armed forces in order to strengthen Tajikistan’s common border with Afghanistan and in case of necessity to get servicemen of other power-wielding structures and reservists involved in the safeguarding of the Tajik-Afghan border.
Rahmon expressed dissatisfaction with the current level of the fight against the drug trafficking and ordered to intensify work in this direction, the source said.
A special attention was given to issues related to combating transnational organized crime and preventing youth radicalization in Tajikistan.
The meeting participants also discussed the ongoing spring conscription campaign and improvement of material facilities for the country’s power-wielding structures.
