French authorities say they have foiled a possible terror attack after detaining seven people in Strasbourg.

Franceinfo, citing France's DGSI domestic intelligence agency, reported on December 8 that seven young people were detained in Strasbourg on November 18 on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack in the territory of France.  

According to a source familiar with the situation, five of those detained are natives of Russia who were previously known to DGSI as sympathetic to radicalism.

Two others reportedly entered the territory of the country only recently by the time of their arrest.

The source also noted that after carrying out the relevant operational measures, two – one of them is Tajik, had been charged with criminal terrorist activities and taken into custody.  The remaining five were reportedly released. 

It is reported that the target of the terrorists was to become a famous Christmas market the Bas-Rhin department.
