Heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) yesterday reached an agreement on establishment of the SCO Anti-Drug Center in Dushanbe as an independent permanent agency..

Tajikistan’s Foreign Ministry says the Anti-Drug Center’s activities will be regulated by an international agreement, which the SCO member nations will develop after the Astana summit. 

Speaking at the summit, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon said the country’s government would create all necessary conditions to ensure effective operation of the Center.  

The SCO heads of state reportedly also supported Tajikistan’s proposal to create a mechanism of the SCO antimonopoly agency heads’ meetings that will expand cooperation in this area.  

Recall, Tajikistan on April 24-25, 2023 chaired inter-departmental consultations at the Foreign Ministry of Tajikistan in Dushanbe.  The discussion focused on the establishment of an SCO anti-drug center as an independent permanent agency in Dushanbe.

The meeting participants held a detailed discussion of issues on implementing the initiative by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on setting up the SCO anti-drug center in Dushanbe.    

The Acting National Coordinator of the Republic of Tajikistan for CIS Affairs, Ahmad Saidmurodzoda, presented Tajikistan’s approaches to setting up the anti-drug center, as well as the main tasks and tables of organization.

The participants signed a protocol following the consultations, which were held in a constructive atmosphere.
