DUSHANBE, October 29, 2009, Asia-Plus -- The national budget for 2010 should be oriented to use of domestic sources of income, Ismoil Talbakov, member of the Majlisi Namoyandgon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Committee on Economy, Budget, Finance and Taxes, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
The draft budget for 1010 is currently being discussed by committees and commissions of the lower house of the parliament and parliamentarians have proposed many changes and addenda to it.
“We consider that under conditions of the global financial crisis, there ought to hope for domestic resources and source of income rather than incomes from taxes on imported goods and services and value added tax (VAT),” Talbakov said.
According to him, the budget for the next year should focus on development of national economy, maintenance of social sector and construction of facilities of nationwide significance such as the Roghun hydroelectric power station.
MP also considers that time has come to make serious amendments to the country’s tax code. “It is necessary to review some articles of the tax code in order to find new sources for replenishing the budget,” Talbakov said.
The global financial crisis is not yet over and Tajikistan should count more on its own opportunities than hope for foreign factors of development of economy and finance, MP added.
