DUSHANBE, October 31, 2012, Asia-Plus -- A new book about prominent Tajik politician of the twentieth century Shirinsho Shotemour entitled “Shotemour in Tajik Literature” has been published in Dushanbe.
Gurez Safarov, editor-in-chief of the publishing house Adib under the Ministry of Culture, which has printed the book, says it includes dramas and poetries by Tajik authors about the Hero of Tajikistan Shirinsho Shotemour.
“The book, in particular, includes the drama “Sitorai Umed” (The Star of Hope) by known Tajik playwright Ghani Abdullo, the drama “Davlati Bargashta” (The Returned Good) by Tajik poet Ato Mirkhouja and the poem “Shirinsho Shotemour” by Timour Zuhurov,” Safarov noted.
The preface of the book is written by known Tajik journalist Qurbon Alamshoyev.
Shirinsho Shotemour (1899-1937) is a prominent Tajik politician of the twentieth century, who has made a major contribution to the early history of the Soviet Tajikistan.
Shotemour was born on December 1, 1899 in Shugnan district, Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, Tajikistan, to a poor farmer family. At the age of 13 Shotemour started assisting his family on the field. Since 1914 to 1918 he worked at a factory in Tashkent. In 1921 he began pursuing political career and was sent back to the Pamirs as a member of the political-military team. From 1923 to 1924 he worked as an instructor of the national minorities department of Tajikistan''s Communist Party Central Committee. At the same time he headed the Tajik communist section. During his lifetime Shirinsho Shotemour held many leading positions in the Tajik government and in the communist party. In 1937 Shotemour was charged with falsified accusation of participation in anti-soviet nationalistic organization and arrested in Moscow. Later the same year the Military board of the Supreme Court of the USSR sentenced Shotemour to death. The execution dated on October 27, 1937. In 1956 Shotemour was posthumously rehabilitated by Military board of the Supreme Court of the USSR.
Shirinsho Shotemour is one of the main initiators of establishing the Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic within the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic in 1924. As of 1927 Shotemour was Tajik ASSR''s representative in Uzbek SSR. In 1929, Shirinsho Shotemour successfully insisted on joining Sughd province to Tajik ASSR. The same year he initiated the exit of Tajikistan from Uzbek SSR, and establishment of the new Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic. Many Soviet historians believe that his initiatives to separate Tajikistan from the Uzbek SSR caused his rivals to falsify charges against Shotemour, which led to his death sentence. Shirinsho Shotemour was awarded with prestigious state awards during his lifetime, as well as posthumously, including the recent awards from Tajikistan in 1999 and 2006.
