DUSHANBE, May 11, 2016, Asia-Plus -- This summer, the University of Central Asia (UCA) will once again welcome Grade 10 students from Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan to the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan for its second annual UCA Summer Camp from July 20 to August 9 at the Royal Beach Resort, according to UCA’s website.
The UCA Summer Camp’s rigorous academics and applied learning, together with social activities and team building, offer students a well-rounded learning experience that promotes discovery and personal growth. Last year, 76 students were chosen from 850 applicants.
At the Camp, students develop skills needed to plan their academic future. They upgrade their English and mathematics abilities in an immersive English environment, and sit for an international standard exam at the end.
With a staff-student ratio of four to one, students receive individual attention and participate in small group learning. Whether students are fluent in English or struggling in maths, UCA staff are there to help, offering additional assignments to more advanced students and extra sessions for those in need of support. English speakers and knowledgeable English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher support the immersive language environment at Camp.
The Camp is truly student centered. While preparing students to apply for university and exams, the three-week, merit based program also encourages students to envision their future and identify steps needed to make it a reality. Through interactive sessions on navigating the university application process, selecting the right university and identifying relevant areas of study, students from diverse backgrounds begin to assemble the stepping-stones to future careers.
And they have a lot of fun in the process. Students from different countries live together in shared housing and build friendships and connections with fellow students and staff. Field trips to cultural sites, debate nights, sports activities, science and math challenges, art projects and more allow students to learn from one another and experience a taste of university life on a residential campus.
The UCA Summer Camp experience helps set students apart in the competitive university application process. After more than 42 hours of English instruction, 24 hours of mathematics, and an immersive English learning environment, students depart the Camp prepared for both the academic demands of the university admissions process, and the social experience of living with other students.
Admission to the UCA Summer Camp is merit based. The cost per student is US$1,300. Every student receives a US$1,000 scholarship and only pays US$300, with financial aid available for students with demonstrated need.
To apply to the UCA Summer Camp, students must sit for a short entrance exam in English comprehension, math and logic. Register by May 17 to receive an exclusive gift after completion, and sit for the admissions test at centers in all three countries on May 21-22, 2016
