The Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzoda yesterday told reporters what having been done to reduce crime in Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

According to him, more than 100 jobless residents of Gorno Badakhshan have been placed in jobs at the site for construction of the Roghun hydropower plant since October last year.

Besides, a certain number of unemployed youth from GBAO have been accepted to work with the country’s power-wielding structures and some others have been offered job vacancies in other regions of the country, the minister noted.

“In addition to this, the Interior Ministry has asked the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Employment of Population to develop an employment program to provide youth from GBAO with jobs outside Tajikistan, first of all, in Russia,”

Rahimzoda further added that after the Interagency Staff on Providing Rule of Law in GBAO began operating in late September last year the “the criminogenic situation in the region has been taken under control and crime has significantly reduced in Gorno Badakhshan, especially in Khorog.”

Recall, deputy governor of GBAO, Ms. Nazira Amirbekzoda, noted in late October last year that GBAO authorities jointly with the Interior Ministry have offered local unemployed residents job vacancies in other regions of the country.  According to her, 250 job vacancies have been offered to local unemployed residents.

“The main purpose of this initiative is in providing decent works for local unemployed youth,” she said.

“We cannot provide jobs for all local unemployed youth in the region, and therefore, we offer them job vacancies in other regions of the country,” Amirbekzoda added.
