Sughd authorities have provided 6.5 million somoni to prevent the seared of a novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the province.

According to the Sughd Directorate for Health and Social Protection of the Population, all medical facilities in northern Tajikistan have been provided with all necessary equipment to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the area.  

An official source at the Sughd Health Directorate says more than 54,000 antiviral drugs, 35,000 face masks, 5,700 respirators, 1,328 protective eyeglasses as well as more than 7,000 reusable and disposable overalls, 123 ventilators, 154 heart monitors and some other equipment have been stockpiled in the province.

According to the Sughd Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision, a large-scale disinfection operation was carried out in all 18 cities and districts of the province on April 26 from 20:00 to 24:00.  

All highways, streets, avenues, parks, bus and trolleybus stops, educational facilities, kindergartens, hospitals and catering facilities in the province have reportedly been disinfected.

Besides, public transport is disinfected every day, a source within the Sughd Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision told Asia-Plus in an interview.  

Meanwhile, one more patient died in the central district hospital in the Jabbor-Rasoulov district on April 27.

A 39-year-old resident of the Gulakandoz jamoat, lawyer Komil Ibodullozoda, was admitted to the hospital on Aril 25 complaining of coughing, fever and chest pain.  X-ray reportedly detected pneumonia.  

According to the statistical data from the Sughd Directorate for Health and Social Protection of the Population, 17 people died of pneumonia in northern Tajikistan over the first three months of this year.  Over the same period last year, 24 people reportedly died of pneumonia in the Sughd province.
