According to official data, 123 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Tajikistan over the past day, bringing a total number of the confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 3,930 as of May 31.

No coronavirus-linked deaths have been reported over the past four days, the single national portal on the new coronavirus issues says.

The number of COVID-19-related death remains the same in Tajikistan – 47.

139 patients reportedly recovered on May 31.  As of May 31, 1, 2,004 patients have recovered, according to official data. 

The Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population, Jaloliddin Abdullozoda, said in an interview with SSR newspaper on May 29 that Tajikistan passed its peak of coronavirus infections, when the country recorded the highest number of daily confirmed COVID-19 cases.

According to him, after peaking in mid-May at 211 new cases per day, the number of daily infections in Tajikistan has been decreasing and the number of recovering patients has been increasing with every passing day.  No coronavirus-linked death have been reported in the country in recent days, the minister noted.   

Meanwhile, Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service, known locally as Radio Ozodi, says a 63-year-old retired general Abduvahhob Iskandarzoda died from COVID-19 in the southern city of Kulob on May 31 and he was buried the same day at Kulob cemetery No 2.

According to Radio Ozodi, the general’s former colleague supposes that Iskandarzoda could become infected with the new coronavirus at a funeral of his brother, ex-chief of the Kulob traffic police department, who died two weeks ago.
