In response to the requests of the Government of Republic of Tajikistan, in particular President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the Government of Japan kindly rendered assistance to Republic of Tajikistan for COVID-19 prevention and response activities, according to Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe.

On June 19, 2020 the ceremony for Exchange of Notes on “Economic and Social Development Program” took place between Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Takayuki Miyashita and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Sirojiddin Muhriddin.

The Government of Japan extends 600 Million Japanese Yen (approximately 57 million somoni) to the Government of Tajikistan for the implementation of the mentioned project.  This project will increase the capacity medical institutions of Tajikistan by providing the advanced medical equipment for diagnosing and treatment of patients with COVID-19. The equipment includes portable X-ray machines for patients in the intensive care units, blood gas analyzer for measuring level of oxygen, oxygen generator, negative pressure booth for storing infected patients, etc.  The new equipment will ensure improved medical service for the people of Tajikistan with strengthened capacity of the Tajik medical professionals.

The Government of Japan has always put high priority on the Tajik social sector for the Japan’s Official Development Assistance. Its contribution this time is a humble addition to the entire efforts to support the Tajik social sector in need. The Government of Japan is determined to continue its support to create a better society for all people and committed to working together with the people of Tajikistan.

The cooperation between Japan and Tajikistan is making progress in many spheres.  To this day, many projects are continuously being implemented, particularly around the infrastructure and rural development sectors. In the sphere of economic cooperation, Japan has thus far provided grant aid of 35.2 billion Yen (around 330 million USD) since 1996. With the beginning of the above- mentioned project, Japan’s Official Development Assistance will accelerate even more.
