An official ceremony of a new settlement built for victims of May devastating floods and mudslides took place on September 1.

Speaking at the settlement-opening ceremony, Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda proposed to name the new settlement 30th Anniversary of State Independence. 

The new settlement, which consists of 67 homes, has drugstore, hairdressing shop, trading center, Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

A water supply system that provides every home with a water tap has been built in the settlement.

Yesterday, mattresses, bedding sets and kitchen utensils were distributed to residents of the new settlement.  


Recall, continuous heavy rains resulted in floods and mudslides between May 14 and 16 in Asadullo, 18th Partsyezd (Party Congress) and Pakhtaobod villages of the Khuroson district, Khatlon province.  Thirteen homes were fully destroyed and more than thirty-five homes destroyed partially.  Two men reportedly died and several others were injured from the natural disaster.
