On September 28, 2021, H.E. Mr. MIYASHITA Takayuki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Tajikistan, together with Mr. SHAMSZODA Khizmatullo, director of National Medical Center “Shifobakhsh”, attended the handover ceremony of “The Project for Improvement of Medical Equipment for Ophthalmological Department of National Medical Center “Shifobakhsh”” in Dushanbe City.

The project has been implemented by the national medical center “Shifobakhsh” and was funded by the Government of Japan through the scheme of “Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects (GGP)”. The GGP grant with the total amount of US$ 75,680 was efficiently used to improve medical environment of Ophthalmological Department.

Prior to the implementation of the project, the center was in need of necessary equipment for the ophthalmological department and some patients had to go to other private hospitals. With the completion of the projects, patients can access to improved medical equipment at national medical center.


During his speech at the handover ceremony, Mr. MIYASHITA made a following remark “It is my great pleasure to handover brand new inspection equipment to the Ophthalmological Department. These high-quality equipment in front of us will contribute to accurate diagnoses and clear sights of the patients. I am sure, after an appropriate treatment, the patients will see a totally different surroundings. I hope the equipment will be good maintained for years and contribute to a happy life of every patient who recovered a clear view”

The handover ceremony marks the expansion of contribution of the Government of Japan in promoting quality healthcare service in Tajikistan. “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project” (GGP) is a scheme within Japan’s Official Development Assistance. GGP in particular implements grassroots-level projects in various sectors throughout the Republic of Tajikistan. Recipients of GGP grants include local governments, educational and medical institutions, and NGOs. As of today, GGP has supported 434 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan, for which US$ $35.5 million has been allocated since 1996.
