A COVID-19 revaccination campaign has been launched in Tajikistan, Navrouz Jafarov, an official with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MoHSPP), told Asia-Plus yesterday afternoon.
According to him, health workers in Dushanbe are the first to receive the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and they are currently waiting for list of health workers from the regions.
Revaccination is the act of administering a vaccine again some period after an initial vaccination especially to strengthen or renew the immune response
Jafarov further noted that vulnerable population groups – health workers, teachers, public servants and aged people – would be revaccinated first
“For revaccination of all residents of Tajikistan, we are waiting for permission from the Standing Committee on COVID-19 Response,” Tajik health official added.
According to statistical data from a MoHSPP, at least 68.6 percent of the country’s adult population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to date. As of January 12, at least 57 percent of Tajikistan’s adult population has reportedly got both COVID-19 vaccine shots.
In Tajikistan, COVID-19 vaccination is compulsory for people aged 18 and over.
In Tajikistan, five types of the COVID-19 vaccine are used for vaccination of the population: CoronaVac; AstraZeneca; Moderna; Pfizer; and Sputnik V.
