Dismantling of the Victory Monument has begun in Dushanbe. Workers carrying out dismantling of the monument told Asia-Plus’s reporter that the monument will be relocated to the city’s Victory Park. A two-route flyover will be built on the site of the Victory Square.
The Victory Monument is located at the Victory Park on Ayni Avenue in Dushanbe. The monument was built in 1968 in honor of the Victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The authors are sculptor G. Cherednichenko and architect G. Solominov.
Two stelas made of reinforced concrete, lined with red granite marble tiles, shot up to a height of 25 meters like steel blades.
The lower part is decorated with bas-reliefs depicting the events of the Great Patriotic War. Nearby, on a pedestal, an IS-2 tank was installed in honor of the workers of the republic. It was at their expense during the war years that the tank column "Collective Farmer of Tajikistan" was created, which participated in the Battle of Stalingrad. There is a green square next to the monument.
An official source within the Committee for Architecture and Construction under the Government of Tajikistan told Asia-Plus in February last year that three more flyovers are expected to be built in Dushanbe.
One of them is expected to be built on the site of the Victory Square (IS-2 tank monument).
The second flyover will be built at the crossroads of Hofiz Sherozi Avenue and Qahhorov Street (at the turn to the meat-packing plant).
The third flyover will be built at the cross road of Saadi Sherozi and Sino Street (locally known as Profsoyuz circle).
Recall, two three-route flyovers now operate in the Tajik capital. One of them was inaugurated in September 2018 and the second one was inaugurated in October 2020.
Meanwhile, a reliable source within the Dushanbe Administration told Asia-Plus in late October 2019 that as a part of the municipal redevelopment plan for Dushanbe, some 20 flyovers will be constructed in Dushanbe by 2030.
“The projects for construction of three- and two-route flyovers in the Circus area, at the turn to the meat-packing plant, at the turn to airport, in the creamery area, in the U.S. Embassy area, at the 102nd roundabout, in the cement plant area, in the Korvon bazaar area and near the Dushanbe Western Gate are currently under consideration,” the source said.
According to him, the flyovers will be built due to funds provided by the Dushanbe Administration and investments.
