The second half of summer turned out to be unbearably hot and stuffy, and the correspondent of Asia Plus once again decided to find out how the animals of the capital zoo tolerate the heat.
In order not to scare off the zoo staff, this time I decided to enter incognito by buying a standard ticket for 3 somoni at the checkout. Since my last visit, nothing has changed here – visitors are also greeted by numerous kiosks with food and soft drinks, aromas of national dishes are wafted from catering points. For sure, they also arouse the appetite of animals, whose enclosures begin after about 100 meters.
Here, on the left and on the right, there are attractions where satisfied visitors squeal (especially in the evenings). I was previously told that this part is rented out so that the zoo director can keep wild animals in more or less acceptable conditions.
Of course, there is not enough money coming from the state budget to feed them. As well as to finally build a modern comfortable zoo, the project of which was developed several years ago. There are probably no patrons ready to take up a good cause, because it is much more profitable to build another new building or hotel…
