With the support of the European Union (EU) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ Tajikistan is launching a new campaign as part of the Building a System of Integrated Primary Healthcare in Tajikistan (BaSIC) project aimed at raising awareness about HIV and tuberculosis (TB), says press release issued by GIZ Tajikistan on January 9. This initiative is all about making sure everyone understands these important health issues and knows how to stay healthy.
The project invited local leaders, health experts, and community members, including district officials, the Center for Healthy Lifestyles, the TB Control Center, the HIV/AIDS Prevention Center, and primary healthcare providers. Together, we’re tackling the pressing need for education and reducing the stigma surrounding HIV and TB, which are still major health concerns in Tajikistan.
This effort, funded by the European Union and BMZ, highlights their commitment to improving health outcomes in the region. The goal is to help everyone understand the risks and better protect themselves and their family members.
What can you expect from this campaign?
A variety of fun and informative activities is being launched. These include engaging educational materials, multimedia content, and community events designed to explain how HIV and TB are transmitted, prevented, and treated. Additionally, we’re offering free health screenings, such as chest X-rays and HIV tests, to help detect potential health issues early and reduce the risk of spreading these diseases.
The campaign is aimed at creating a friendly and supportive environment where everyone feels comfortable seeking care. Ms. Gulizor Ashourova from the Center for Healthy Lifestyles says: “This campaign is a big step forward in our fight against HIV and TB. By giving people the knowledge and access to services they need, we’re building a healthier, more informed society!”
The campaign organizers are starting in one district, with plans to expand to 12 more districts in the coming months. This campaign is part of their ongoing mission to strengthen healthcare in Tajikistan and ensure that everyone has access to quality services.
All local communities are invited to join this important campaign and take advantage of the free testing services available.
