Parvina Mirakhmedova, a Tajik ophthalmologist and researcher at Charrokhi Chashm Nigoh LLC, has been named a finalist for the 2025 Women Changing the World Awards.
She was nominated in several prestigious categories for her contributions to medicine and technology, ultimately securing a place as a finalist in three nominations:
- Woman in Healthcare Award

A Contribution to Ophthalmology
At just 36 years old, Parvina has been engaged in medical research since graduating university.
Over her 14-year career, she has improved medical practices and made groundbreaking advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases, such as glaucoma and uveitis, which remain among the leading causes of blindness worldwide.
Developing a New Glaucoma Diagnosis Algorithm
One of her most significant contributions is a new diagnostic algorithm for glaucoma, which replaces outdated methods and enables earlier detection of the disease.
This innovation has significantly improved treatment outcomes and helped preserve vision for many people, particularly in Tajikistan, where access to modern medical care remains limited.
Software for Cell Counting
Parvina also developed a unique software for cell counting, which standardized inflammation assessment and greatly reduced the subjectivity of diagnosis.
This advancement has increased the accuracy of uveitis treatment, improving patient outcomes for eye inflammation diseases that can lead to severe vision loss.
Her work has received high praise from the scientific medical community, with her research published in Scopus-indexed journals.
A Telegram Bot for Uveitis Inflammation Assessment
Another innovative project is the development of a Telegram bot (@ophthalmo_test_bot), which allows doctors to quantify inflammation levels and track disease progression.
This digital tool enhances diagnostic accuracy and helps adjust treatment in a timely manner, which is crucial for preserving patients' vision.
How Parvina Finds Inspiration and Inspires Others
Parvina’s work in ophthalmology not only enhances diagnostic and treatment methods but also changes lives in Tajikistan and beyond. However, her journey has not been easy—behind every achievement lies years of struggle, perseverance, and resilience.
"My family has faced several tragic events. I lost my father to cancer, and soon after, my mother fell seriously ill. I have personally experienced what patients and their families go through. That’s when I realized—if there’s something I can improve, if I can make healthcare more accessible or make doctors’ work easier, then I have to do it,"
she says.
This personal experience became her driving force. In a world where new technologies transform medicine daily, she didn’t want her home country to be left behind.
"The world is moving forward, medical innovations are revolutionizing healthcare, and Tajikistan must not lag behind. We can—and must—adopt modern methods instead of just following in others’ footsteps," she asserts.
After working at the international clinic "Solim Med", the private clinic "Nurafzo", and completing an internship in Germany, she became convinced that cutting-edge practices could—and should—be implemented in Tajikistan.
But was the local medical market ready for innovation?
"New ideas always face resistance. At first, they are rejected, but eventually, life without them becomes unimaginable,"
she admits.
Some of her projects took ten years to gain acceptance—ten years of debates, doubts, and fighting for recognition. But her belief in her work, the support of mentors from the Ophthalmology Department of Avicenna Tajik State Medical University (TGMU), and, most importantly, the love and understanding of her family helped her stay on course.
When she was chosen as a finalist among 751 nominees, it wasn’t just recognition—it was her personal triumph.
"I felt pure satisfaction. Those who said I was wasting my time, that my ideas were useless, now have their answer. I’m thrilled about the opportunity to travel to London and present my work. But honestly, I already feel like a winner!"
International Recognition
Being nominated for the Women Changing the World Awards is a major milestone in Parvina’s career. This achievement not only acknowledges her contributions to ophthalmology but also motivates her to reach even greater heights.
In April 2025, the winners will be announced at the Global Summit and Awards Ceremony in London.
The event will take place at the Park Hyatt hotel on the River Thames, attracting world leaders, business executives, scientists, and medical professionals.
Although Parvina has already made it to the final round, she is currently seeking funding to attend the summit and awards ceremony.
This trip would be a crucial step in her career, allowing her to share her achievements, build new professional connections, and promote innovation in ophthalmology on a global scale.
