After 84 years of being missing, the remains of a Tajik soldier who died in World War II have been found and will be returned to his homeland. Rozi Safar Nozimov, a marine in the Soviet Army, was considered missing in action since November 1941, when he died in Sevastopol.

On December 9, Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev announced in his Telegram channel that Nozimov’s remains were discovered earlier this year in the trenches near the village of Aivovo in the Bakhchisaray district. During the excavation, the remains of two soldiers were found, and one was identified thanks to a well-preserved medal. Razvozhayev clarified that this was Red Army sailor Rozi Safar Nozimov, born in 1917, who had been listed as missing since November 7, 1941.

The governor further explained that, thanks to the efforts of local authorities and search teams, Nozimov’s relatives in Tajikistan were located. It was revealed that after the war, Nozimov’s brother had traveled to Sevastopol in search of him, but it so happened that the remains were discovered only many decades later.

On December 9, the remains were handed over to representatives of the regional public organization "Center for Tajik Culture of Crimea." They will soon be repatriated to Tajikistan for burial. Nozimov will be laid to rest by his nephew, the son of his brother, in his hometown of Vahdat, Tajikistan.
