Japanese and Russian foreign ministers Hirofumi Nakasone and Sergei Lavrov held very informative talks on Wednesday.

“We’ve conducted very informative talks,” the Japanese diplomat said.

As for a peace treaty and the territorial issue that remains the main unresolved problem in the two countries’ relations Nakasone stressed that it is necessary to reach such progress in the talks that could be compatible with our achievements in trade and economic cooperation as well as other sectors.

He underlined that the parties “agreed their determination to move towards resolving the problem.”
