Armenia and Turkey have agreed to normalize bilateral relations, the foreign ministers of Armenia, Turkey and Switzerland said in a joint statement. The press and information department of the Armenian Foreign Ministry has distributed its text.

“Turkey and Armenia with Switzerland as mediator have carried out joint intensive work with an aim to normalize bilateral ties and develop them in the spirit of mutual respect and good-neighbourly relations,” the statement says.

They will give an impetus to “peace, stability and security in the entire region,” the document goes on to say.

“In this process the two sides have reached tangible progress and mutual understanding.

They (Armenia and Turkey) have reached an agreement as part of a comprehensive process of normalizing bilateral relations in a form suiting the two sides,” the foreign ministers of Armenia, Turkey and Switzerland stressed.

The foreign policy chiefs also added that a “roadmap” that would create a positive perspective for sustaining the progress had been determined.
