The members of the UN Security Council (UNSC) have condemned violation of the provisions of the UNSC resolution by the Democratic People''s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, President of the Council in July and Uganda''s UN Ambassador, told journalists on Monday night after closed-door consultations.

Dr. Rugunda said the Security Council members expressed serious concern over and condemn the launchings (of the DPRK''s rockets) that are a violation of UNSC resolutions and bring about a threat to regional and international security.

The Council had gathered for extraodinary closed-door consultaitons on Monday at Japan''s request to discuss the launchings of medium- and short-range rockets by Pyongyang in the past days.

The President of the Council said the UNSC members emphasized once again that the DPRK must fully meet its obligations under the respective resolutions, including UNSC Resolutions 1,718 and 1,874. The Council members urged all the sides to refrain from any actions that may aggravate the situation in the region, he added.

The Council stressed once again its commitment to a peaceful settlement of the situation in the region diplomatically and politically, Uganda''s UN Ambassador pointed out.
