Media reports say Jordan's King Abdullah yesterday warned against trying to push Palestinian refugees into Egypt or Jordan, adding that the humanitarian situation must to be dealt with inside Gaza and the West Bank.
"That is a red line, because I think that is the plan by certain of the usual suspects to try and create de facto issues on the ground. No refugees in Jordan, no refugees in Egypt. " King Abdullah said at a news conference following a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin, according to Reuters.
“This is a situation that has to be handled within Gaza and the West Bank,” said he. “And you don’t have to carry this out on the shoulders of others.”
The Jordanian monarch also expressed concern about the escalating violence in the region, noting that everything needs to be done to prevent a further escalation of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.
“The whole region is on the brink,” Abdullah said. “This new cycle of violence is leading us towards the abyss,” the Jordanian monarch added.
