The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is moving towards the creation of a unified data exchange system between civil registry offices (ZAGS), the official website of the CIS Executive Committee reports.

This initiative will allow member states to efficiently exchange information regarding birth, death, marriage, and divorce registrations, as well as other critical data contained in civil status records.

The Republic of Uzbekistan has been entrusted with the development of the project’s concept.

The proposed system is expected to significantly simplify intergovernmental interactions in the field of civil status registration. CIS citizens will be able to obtain necessary documents and certificates regardless of their place of registration, reducing bureaucratic hurdles.

Additionally, implementing a unified information exchange system will enhance data accuracy and prevent potential misuse, which is particularly relevant given the increasing migration flows within the CIS.

The project is set to be implemented in several stages, starting with concept development and approval, followed by technical implementation and integration of national civil registry systems into a single network.

The CIS Executive Committee has announced the commencement of work on the project.  While no specific timeline has been provided yet, official statements indicate that active progress is being made.  The introduction of a unified civil registry system will be a significant step towards enhanced cooperation and integration among CIS member countries.
