Iranian media reports say Iran’s police have arrested a thirteen-member terror group affiliated with Daesh (an Arabic acronym that translates to the English term “Islamic State of Iraq and Syria”, or ISIS).
IRNA and Mehr News Agency (MNA) report that Brigadier General Saeed Montazer-al-Mahdi, a spokesperson for the Iranian Police, said on Wednesday that the group had been planning bombing and suicide attacks.
The arrests were made in coordinated an operation involving police forces in Tehran, Esfahan, Qom, and Alborz provinces in recent days.
Press TV cited Montazer-al-Mahdi as saying that all members of the terrorist network, including 13 individuals, comprising the leader, command, and logistics teams, and suicide bombers, were arrested along with explosives, suicide vests, and backpacks.
He also said that further details regarding the operation and arrests will be disclosed in the coming days.
The terrorist cell reportedly planned acts of sabotage and bombings at an unspecified gathering.
Iran Press and the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported yesterday that the Iranian police's counterterrorism unit, known as FARAJA, has been actively working to dismantle terrorist networks within the country. This recent operation reportedly reflects a broader strategy to enhance national security and protect public gatherings from potential threats.
