The unemployment rate in Tajikistan has remained relatively stable in recent years, according to the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Employment of the Population (MoLMEP).
In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, the Minister of Labor, Migration and Employment of the Population, Ms. Soleha Kholmahmadzoda, revealed on July 30 that as of July 1, 2025, the country had 2.748 million people employed in its economy, while 33,800 individuals were officially registered as unemployed—representing 1.2% of the labor force.
Over the first three months of 2025, legal entities and private individuals reportedly created 42,800 new, additional, or restored jobs, including:
- 18,798 (44%) permanent positions;
- 11,177 (26.1%) temporary jobs;
- 12,018 (28.1%) seasonal roles.
Of these, 23,766 jobs (55.5%) were created in the real sector of the economy, while 19,046 jobs (44.5%) emerged in the services sector.
Within the real economy, job creation was concentrated in:
- Agriculture, hunting, forestry, and fishing: 10,685 jobs;
- Mining: 540 jobs;
- Manufacturing: 3,015 jobs;
- Electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning: 28 jobs;
- Water supply, waste treatment, and recycling: 80 jobs;
- Construction: 9,418 jobs.
In the services sector, the breakdown was:
- Wholesale and retail trade, vehicle repair: 6,603 jobs;
- Transportation and warehousing: 1,969 jobs;
- Hospitality and food services: 484 jobs;
- Information and communications: 416 jobs;
- Finance and insurance: 524 jobs;
- Real estate: 410 jobs;
- Professional, scientific, and technical services: 937 jobs;
- Administrative and support services: 187 jobs;
- Public administration, defense, and social security: 440 jobs;
- Education: 2,726 jobs;
- Healthcare and social work: 502 jobs;
- Arts, entertainment, and recreation: 412 jobs;
- Other services: 3,380 jobs;
- International organizations and diplomatic missions: 56 jobs.
In comparison, according to data for the Labor Ministry for December 2024, there were 51,400 officially registered unemployed persons in Tajikistan, with the unemployment rate standing at 1.9%. A year earlier, in December 2023, 48,300 people were officially listed as unemployed—1.8% of the economically active population.
