Tajikistan has significantly increased its output of meat, milk, and eggs over the first six months of this year, marking a strong step toward reducing reliance on imported animal products.  According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, domestic production is expected to continue rising, supporting national food security.

From January to June 2025, the country reportedly produced 98,800 tons of meat (live weight), up 11.8% compared to the same period last year.  The lion's share of this output—88.6%—came from private household farms, while dehqon (peasant) farms contributed 9.9%, and public agricultural enterprises accounted for 1.5%.  Khatlon province led meat production with 46.6% of the national total.

Poultry meat production also rose, reaching 19,700 tons in the first half of the year—2.6% more than during the same period in 2024.  Notably, public agricultural enterprises played a dominant role, contributing 85.9% of the total.  Sughd province emerged as the leading poultry producer, accounting for 49.6% of the national output.

Egg production saw the most substantial growth.  In the first six months of 2025, Tajikistan produced 669.2 million eggs—a 23.2% year-on-year increase.  Public agricultural enterprises again played a central role, supplying 80.1% of the eggs.  Sughd province led regional production, contributing an impressive 68.7% of the total.

Milk production also posted steady growth.  In the first half of 2025, Tajikistan produced 436,900 tons of milk—5.8% more than in the same period last year.  Private households were responsible for 92.8% of this total. Sughd and Khatlon provinces each accounted for approximately 39% of national milk output.

Government projections indicate that Tajikistan will maintain a consistent upward trend in livestock production through 2026–2028.  Officials expect this momentum to boost food self-sufficiency and further reduce import dependency.

By 2028, meat production is forecast to reach 481,000 tons, including 69,000 tons of poultry.  Egg output is expected to climb to 1.462 billion units, and milk production could hit 1.349 million tons.

As part of the country’s broader strategy to develop its processing industry, the government plans to increase processed meat production to 116,700 tons by 2028, milk-based products to 114,600 tons, and egg output to 1.46 billion units.

Parallel to rising domestic production, the country is seeing a marked reduction in imports of livestock products.  In 2026, meat imports are projected to fall to 9,000 tons and milk imports to 16,000 tons.  By 2027, these numbers are expected to decline further—to 8,000 tons of meat and 15,000 tons of milk.  By 2028, imports may drop to 7,000 tons of meat and 13,000 tons of milk. Notably, Tajikistan has already ceased importing eggs, with the exception of incubation eggs.
