The Presidents of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan have been nominated for the prestigious Leo Tolstoy International Peace Prize. The Russian Peace Foundation proposed this nomination based on historic agreements signed during the 2025 summit in the Tajik northern city of Khujand.
In a letter to the award jury, Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the Russian Peace Foundation, announced that President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan, and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan were nominated for their significant contributions to regional security, the development of a multipolar world, and international cooperation.
Slutsky highlighted the importance of the agreements signed during the first trilateral summit of the three countries, held on March 31, 2025, in Khujand. These included a landmark border agreement between Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as the Khujand Declaration of Eternal Friendship.

“These agreements will promote stability and sustainable development in the region,” Slutsky emphasized. He noted that the Russian Peace Foundation believes these actions deserve recognition for advancing global peace and fostering mutual understanding among nations.
Furthermore, Slutsky pointed out that the leadership of these three countries plays a key role in ensuring security across the Eurasian continent. Ongoing dialogue regarding the creation of a visa-free zone and boosting the region's tourism appeal were also highlighted as key achievements.
The Leo Tolstoy Peace Prize is awarded for outstanding contributions to preventing global war threats, ensuring security based on international law, advancing demilitarization, and defending human rights. In 2024, the award was presented to the African Union.
The Tolstoy Award for Peace, also known as the Leo Tolstoy International Peace Prize, is a relatively new award established in 2022. It is named after the renowned Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, known for his pacifist views and literary works like War and Peace. The prize is awarded to individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to strengthening peace and friendship between peoples.
