President Emomali Rahmon, who is also Head of the Government, yesterday held a government meeting to discuss issues related to economic development and social initiatives, according to the Tajik president’s official website. 

 

Investment project in the textile industry

The Chairman of the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management, Sulton Rahimzoda, reported on a draft investment agreement between the government of the country and the Consortium of Investors of LLC Center for Industrial Development for the implementation of the project, Creation of Textile Cluster of Group of Companies in the Republic of Tajikistan.  

According to him, the purpose of developing and adopting this draft agreement is to support the accelerated industrialization of the country, attract investments, create agro-industrial clusters, and process cotton fiber into finished products within the country.

Rahimzoda further mentioned that the implementation of the project on creation of textile cluster would provide jobs for more than 5,500 citizens of the country.

The draft agreement was approved, and the President instructed the responsible individuals to sign the agreement and submit it for approval to the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament).

 

Amendments proposed to the Tax Code

The meeting reportedly also reviewed the draft law on changes and additions proposed to the country’s Tax Code of the Republic of Tajikistan, which are aimed at finding additional sources of income for the national budget.

The draft law was approved and sent for consideration to the Majlisi Namoyandagon.

Relevant decisions were also made on a number of issues, including the management and effective control of land use.

At the end of the meeting, Emomali Rahmon drew attention of those present to the implementation of instructions given during previous meetings and emphasized the need to intensify work on landscaping and preparations for the celebration of the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan's state independence.
