DUSHANBE, January 6, Asia-Plus -- On January 3, the Marine Security Guard detachment of the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe delivered much needed food commodities to children at three locations in Dushanbe to mark the holiday season.
Noor Umarov, Information Assistant, said that the facility for abandoned children (School #2) and two boarding schools for the hearing impaired in the Rudaki district had received donated items including flour, sugar, rice, oil, oatmeal, canned food, eggs, and dry milk.
The Embassy staff purchased the 1,209 kg of food (valued at more than 3,500 Somoni) exclusively with private donations from American and Tajik members of the U.S. Embassy staff.
“The U.S. Marines and the U.S. Embassy consider charitable donations and food drives an important part of their holiday traditions,” Umarov said.
