President of Kyrgyzstan does not exclude “punitive measures in fighting corruption in order to eliminate authority abuse among officials,” Kurmanbek Bakiev stated, speaking in front of the parliament deputies on Tuesday.
“As in course of the election, so before it was much spoken about corruption clean up. I am, as the president, is well aware of scale of corruption in our country, which represents real threat to the national security. Admitting punitive measures, I think the main direction of corruption control is elimination of possibilities for officials to abuse their authority and post,” the leader believes.
As to the president, “the government should gradually free from functions that can be more effectively implemented by other social structures.”
“As of today the government implements vast range of business activities - deals with agriculture, implements industrial projects, carries out construction. Meanwhile, creation of conditions for business, culture and social development should become the main direction of the modern government’s activity.
Economic activity and business should be free of unnecessary tutorage and pressure of the authority. It is necessary to reduce number of state authorities, dealing with control over economic activity and limit the number of businessmen’s check-ups. Reform of the law enforcement agencies includes elimination of duplicating functions of different bodies in investigation of economic crimes,” Bakiev said.
