DUSHANBE, August 18, 2008, Asia-Plus -- On August 20, the 21-year-old Anvar Yunusov (-51 kg) will compete with Thailand’s Somjit Jongiohor for place in semifinal of the Beijing Olympic boxing tournament, Narzullo Latifov, head of the Association of Sports Commentator of Tajikistan, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
“The Thai boxer has defeated our boxer twice in different boxing tournaments before and Anvar Yunusov now intends to even score with Jongiohor,” Latifov said.
It is to be noted that in the bout for a place in quarterfinal, the 33-year-old Jongiohor beat Samir Mammadov of Azerbaijan 10-2. According to an official website of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the Thai veteran said before the tournament that Beijing 2008 would be his last boxing contest.
We will recall that on August 15, Anvar Yunusov eliminated Brazil’s Robenilson Vieira in the bout for the place in the quarterfinal.
