President Emomali Rahmon has extended condolences to his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev over the tragic plane crash on Wednesday. 

In a message on December 25, Emomali Rahmon expressed condolences to President Ilham Aliyev and people of Azerbaijan over the death of a number of Azerbaijani citizens in the plan crash in Kazakhstan.  

“Dear Ilham Geidarovich, with a feeling of empathy and deep sadness I received the tragic news about the crash of passenger plane near the airport of the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan resulting in heavy loss of life,” reads the message.

Emomali Rahmon also conveyed words of sympathy to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident.

According to media reports on Wednesday, an Azerbaijan Airlines flight with 62 passengers and five crew members on board crashed near the Kazakh Caspian city of Aktau.

As many as twenty-nine survived as Flight 8432 crashed on its way from the Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, to Grozny in Russia's Chechnya region
