DUSHANBE, January 19, Asia-Plus - Tajikistan continues conducting negotiations with the United States to define more precisely the number of Tajik nationals being detained by the U.S. military at its Guantanamo bay naval base in Cuba.
First Deputy Foreign Minister, Saymoumin Yatimov, made this remark telling a news conference in Dushanbe today. According to him, the Tajik MFA does not have precise data about Tajik nationals being detained at the Guantanamo Bay base. He noted that more than 10 Tajik nationals had to date been released from the Guantanamo base.
On the country’s foreign policy in 2006, Yatimov noted that Tajikistan last year expanding its cooperation with foreign countries and international organizations. “Based on a many-vector foreign policy, Tajikistan’s cooperation with Russia, China and the United States expanded last year,” the MFA official said, adding that Tajikistan in 2006 signed 96 international agreements.
