DUSHANBE, April 25, Asia-Plus - Murodali Alimardonov, Chairman of National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), told journalists in Dushanbe on April 25 that President Emomali Rahmon will announce Tajikistan’s financial market open for foreign banks in his address to the country’s parliament on April 30.
According to him, a decision to open the country’s financial market for foreign banks has been made for the purpose of attracting additional financial resources in development of Tajikistan’s economy and banking system. “At the initial stage, five foreign banks, including Kazakhstan’s ATFBank, Kazkomertzbank and TuranAlemBank, will get to the Tajik financial market,” the central bank head said, adding that they are currently considering proposals made by a number of Russian banks and some financial institutions from other countries.
He noted that to open the financial market for foreign banks means that they may freely operate in the territory of Tajikistan, offering people various banking services.
At present nine banks operate in Tajikistan: AgroInvestBonk, OryonBonk, SohibkorBonk, Bank Eskhata, AmonatBonk (Tajik savings bank), TojikSodirotBonk, Tajikistan Development Bank (TDB), TajPromBank and First Microfinance Bank. Additionally, a branch of Iran’s Tejarat Bank and an office of Kazakhstan’s TuranAlemBank also function in the country.
