DUSHANBE, May 29, 2015, Asia-Plus -- A statement released by the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) on May 28 notes that the dollar (USD) exchange rate against the Tajik national currency, the somoni (TJS), has been falling over the past week.

On Thursday May 28, the average buying and selling rates between USD and TJS were 1:6.17 and 1:6.8 respectively, the statement says.

Tajik central bank says an official exchange rate between USD and TJS set by it fro yesterday was 1:6.2685 and market buying and selling rates set for exchange offices were 1:6.52 and 1:6.54 respectively.  “This is evidence of invariability of the foreign exchange (forex) policy of the National Bank of Tajikistan,” the statement noted.

In its statement, Tajik central bank attributes depreciation of USD to “increase in supply of dollars in domestic market, restoration of all currency receipt sources, in particular increase in exports and remittance inflows and decrease in currency outflows.”

“Besides, due to tightened control over use of foreign currencies in circulation, high-value goods have been purchased for the national currency only that has led to decrease in demand for cash dollars,” the statement said.

Another reason for depreciation of USD is reportedly the fact that conditions have been created for physical entities to repay loans in the somoni.
