A tragic traffic accident in Shahriston district of Sughd province claimed the lives of five members of one family on September 20.  The crash occurred on the Dushanbe–Khujand highway, one of the country’s busiest routes.

According to Tajikistan’s Emergencies Committee, an electric car driven by 45-year-old Amirbek Murodov from Istaravshan district collided with a Chinese-made truck Dulan.

The car burst into flames upon impact.  Murodov, his 41-year-old wife, their two daughters (aged 10 and 9), and their 5-year-old son all died at the scene.

The truck driver, identified as J. Azamov, also from Istaravshan, was injured and taken to hospital.

Preliminary reports suggest both vehicles may have been traveling at high speed and lost control.

On the same day, another fatal accident occurred in Sughd’s Kuhistoni-Mastchoh district.  A Korando SUV, driven by a 48-year-old resident of Ronj village, veered off the road after the driver failed to maintain control.

The crash killed a 40-year-old woman from Sughd’s Zafarobod district.  The driver and four passengers sustained injuries and were hospitalized.

Authorities once again urged motorists to observe traffic safety rules, particularly on mountainous highways, and exercise caution during long-distance travel.
