DUSHANBE, August 22, Asia-Plus - Asked about the recent incident in Khorog, Tajik Prosecutor-General Bobojon Bobokhonov today said in his interview with Asia-Plus that detention of Mamadboqir Mamadboqirov, former chief of one of frontier posts in the Murgab district of GBAO is just “an issue of time.”
“No one commander is able today to destabilize the situation in the country,” said Tajik chief prosecutor, “We will detain him, because criminal should be punished.” Mr. Bobokhonov refrained from giving further details of the incident in Khorog. He just said that at present the situation in Khorog was stable.
In the meantime, according to unofficial sources, a skirmish occurred between supporters of Mamadboqir Mamadboqirov and officers of the Khorog police directorate in the Bar Kharagh (Upper Khorog) area of Khorog on August 17. The law enforcement officers came to the area to arrest Mamadboqir Mamadboqirov, while supporters of the last offered resistance, according to the sources. However, the law enforcement agencies have denied information about the skirmish between Khorog police and Mamadboqirov’s supporters as “unfounded,” and refrained from commenting on reason for detention of Mamadboqirov.
On the same day, a group of Khorog residents, mainly women, gathered near the building of the GBAO administration demanding to introduce measures against persons masterminding the unrest in Khorog.
Sources in the Khorog military prosecutor’s office and the country’s interior minister refrained from saying about the current whereabouts of Mamadboqir Mamadboqirov.
