KHUJAND, April 25, Asia-Plus -- In January-March 2008, 919 crimes have been reported in the Sughd province, which is 51 cases more than in the same period of last year, the Sughd police directorate chief Abdurahim Qahhorov remarked at a press conference in Khujand on April 23.
At the same time, compared to January-March 2007 there was a 37.6 reduction of the number of killings. The number of crimes committed by teenagers during the report period decreased by nearly 50 percent – from 85 reported in January-march 2007 to 44. The number of cases of hooliganism reported over the first quarter of this year decreased by 23.9 percent compared to the same period of last year, Qahhorov said.
“Over the report period, seven members of the outlawed religious extremist Hizb ut-Tahrir organization have been detained in the province,” said the Sughd police chief, “133 criminals have been arrested in Sughd over the same three-moth period.”
According to him, 85 crimes, including five killings, 17 thefts, 13 cases of fraud, four cases of dug trafficking, have been and seven cases of pandering, have been committed by women.
