DUSHANBE, October 31, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- Tajik government has considered and endorsed the document on indicators of social and economic development of the country for 2010-2012.

A government session, presided over by President Emomali Rahmon, was held on October 30.

The meeting reviewed the results of this year''s work and considered indictors of social and economic prognosis for 2010-2012, according to presidential press service.  In all the session considered some 50 issues.

Tajikistan’s gross domestic product (GDP) is projected to reach 24.5 billion somoni in 2010 and to increase to 29.4 billion somoni in 2011 and to 35.28 billion somoni in 2012.  Economic growth rate (in comparable prices) is expected to stand at 5, 6.5 and 7 percent respectively.

During the meeting it was noted that the country’s GDP is projected to rise 3 percent in the year to December 31, 2009, reaching 21.2 billion somoni, while inflation for this year is expected to stand at 8 percent.

The session also considered and endorsed the cotton sector development program for 2010-2014.  Under this program, the cotton productivity in the country will increase to 3 tons per hectare by 2014 due to use of advanced agritechnical technologies, while the area under cotton production will be 200,000 ha.

During the session, the GBAO governor Qodir Qosim reported on the process of implementation of the plan of actions to ensure implementation of instructions given by the president during his working visit to Gorno Badakhshan on July 18-20, 2008.

President Rahmon demanded at the meeting that work on construction of all facilities and rehabilitation of roads in Gorno Badakhshan as well as preparations for implementation of the projects for construction of the Sanobod hydropower plant and enterprises for processing precious and semi-precious stones, fruits and vegetables as well as wool and leather in Gorno Badakhshan should be speeded up.

The president also charged relevant officials to ensure issue of shares of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP) until the end of this year in order to attract investments for construction of the station.

The meeting also discussed a number of other issues related to enhancement of the education sector, the nationwide shift to the energy-saving light bulbs and implementation of the state language law.
