On September 5, a new registration procedure for citizens of 8 countries with a visa-free regime staying in the republic for private purposes comes into force in Kyrgyzstan. These countries include Tajikistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Moldova, the press service of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

The new procedure was approved by the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic “On issues of stay of foreign citizens and stateless persons in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic” dated July 31, 2024.

From now on, registration of citizens of these countries who came for private purposes not related to work, study, or business activities will be carried out for a period of 60 calendar days. In case of their stay in the republic beyond this period, the basis for extending registration will be a document granting the right to stay in Kyrgyzstan. There are only four such documents:

- residence permit in the Kyrgyz Republic;

- certificate of a stateless person;

- certificates of “Kairylman”;

- certificates of “Meken-cards”.

Previously, Tajik citizens could register in Kyrgyzstan for a period of 6 months with the right to further extend, depending on the purpose of their stay.

The Ministry of Finance recalls that, in accordance with the legislation, from the date of entry into the territory of Kyrgyzstan, Tajiks are exempt from mandatory registration for 60 days.

According to the new rules, citizens of Tajikistan, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Moldova can stay for up to 60 days in total without registration during each 120-day period from the moment of entry into the country. After 60 days of stay in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic, persons who have not registered will be required to leave the republic and will be able to re-enter the territory of Kyrgyzstan after 60 calendar days.

At the same time, the resolution provides for the registration and issuance of a temporary residence permit within 15 working days valid for 1 year, followed by an annual extension, but not more than 5 years.

On the issue of obtaining a temporary residence permit, you can contact any territorial division of the Department of Population Registration under the Ministry of Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic or the Public Service Center (PSC).

It should be noted that in May 2021, after a bloody border conflict, Kyrgyzstan unilaterally closed the border with Tajikistan for both transport and citizens of our republic. The Kyrgyz authorities have stated that the border will be opened only after the completion of its delimitation process.
