DUSHANBE, September 27, 2013 Asia-Plus -- A delegation of Kyrgyzstan’s State Drug Control Service (SDCS), led by its first deputy head, Gulamzhan Anarbayev, visited the Drug Control Agency (DCA) under the President of Tajikistan on September 26.
According to the DCA press center, Tajik drug control chief, Rustam Nazarov, informed Kyrgyz colleagues of the current drug situation in Tajikistan and activities of DCA and other Tajik law enforcement agencies on combating drug trafficking.
He also informed them of measures taken by the government of Tajikistan to improve efficiency of activity of the law enforcement agencies dealing with combating drug trafficking.
In the course of the talks, the sides discussed issues related to cooperation in combating drug trafficking. They, in particular, noted fruitfulness of joint operations and international anti-drug actions carried out in border areas of the two countries.
Created in 2000 through joint efforts by the Government of Tajikistan and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Tajikistan’s Drug Control Agency supports law enforcement and provides capacity-building, policy and legislative advice to Government institutions as part of efforts to combat drug trafficking.
The Agency has entered into collaborative agreements with law enforcement bodies and special services in Afghanistan, China, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. Additionally, three fully operational liaison offices were established in northern Afghanistan (in Kunduz, Takhor and Badakhshan).
