DUSHANBE, January 14, 2012, Asia-Plus -- Major customs checkpoints on the Tajik-Uzbek border in Sughd province have been temporarily closed for vehicles on initiative of the Uzbek authorities, an official source at the Customs Service, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, of 12 customs checkpoints on the Tajik-Uzbek border in northern Tajikistan only one, the Fotehobod customs checkpoints, is currently working in its usual regime.
“The Uzbek side has not informed us for what reason the customs checkpoints have been closed and when they open them,” the source said.
Meanwhile, two rail customs checkpoints – Nov ad Konibodom – are working in usual regime.
As a whole, the situation on Tajikistan’s common border with Uzbekistan is calm, the source said.
