KULOB, December 2, 2012, Asia-Plus -- Since 1992, 119 HIV sufferers have died from concomitant diseases in the Kulob region of Khalton province, director of AIDS Center # 2 in the city of Kulob, Tohir Tumanov, said.
“In all, 566 HIV sufferers, including 130 women, have been officially registered in the area over the past twenty years,” Tumanov said, noting that injecting drug users (IDUs) constitute 52 percent of the overall number of the officially registered HIV sufferers in the region.
“This year alone, 118 new HIV infection cases have been registered in the area,” said Tumanov. “The majority of the new HUC cases have been reported in the city of Kulob – some 100 cases.”
